Work has been motivationally challenging this week. With my ability to effect change largely dependent on my powers of persuasion or inspiration, I’m sometimes forced to accept that some weeks priorities do not align. To keep myself useful, and sane, I’ve been trying to help others where possible; demos, environments, debugging or just acting as a sounding board.
It was good to get in to the city and see colleagues in person on Wednesday. I’m not sure I needed to stay out until the early hours of Thursday morning. It was fun though.
At home, Ethan has started turning up downstairs fully dressed in the mornings. It started off with an ask for help with his socks but by the end of the week he’d managed those as well. It’s so nice to see that we forgive him the absolute chaos he’s left behind with trying to find the clothes he wants to wear. Next milestone is to try and get him on a bike. He needs to start cycling before he starts at a nursery south of the river in September.
We got the best feedback ever from Oscar’s ‘grow-a-fiver’ business with Mum’s coming up to us and saying they’d received a card over the weekend for Mother’s Day. I think this well and truly put to bed any lingering doubts he’d had over the idea.
We’ve started to think about our upcoming China trip. Train bookings open two weeks in advance and so we’ve had a steady stream of train bookings to align as we try to squeeze in a couple of city breaks while we are there. Despite this, it doesn’t feel like we’ve realised what we need to do before travelling.
On a personal level, I managed to stick to my training schedule for the upcoming Kew the Run 10km. I’ve not been able to crack the slow weight gain though. I’m actually starting to look forward to race day. One week of light training left ahead.
