For many years I used to be able to say that I’d never unexpectedly bumped into anyone I knew. That ended when I sat down in an internet cafe (showing my age I know) in New Zealand and the person next to me lived on same floor as me in our student digs. Weeks later, this time back in London, and I bumped into a school mate leaving Hammersmith Station. Then things returned to normal. There were no more surprises.
This weekend ended up filled with unexpected surprises and coincidences.
- Bumping into friends from EMF Camp in a local park
- Friend’s daughter’s best friend had left their school. She’s now at school with Oscar.
- Another friend now has a daughter starting at Nursery with Ethan.
- The friends we bumped into had stayed at the same accomodation as us on Mijet in Croatia.
- Friend’s yoga club had moved to a pub which turns out to be run by the people we bought our house off.
When I think about it, none of these events stands out as surprising. People of a similar age tend to have children at a similar time. If they live in the same area, their chances of children attending the same academic institutions increase. What stood out about the weekend was the sheer number of these coincidences that we managed to uncover in one afternoon.
